MSM is an entirely new control system from Solid State. A third generation of MultiSystem and the world's first and only truly distributed controller. MSM frees the organ builder for ultimate creativity in organ construction and flexibility, with simple system management using any web browser, and a quality of construction that blends with the highest craftsmanship.

Flexible, Beautiful and Practical

Although MSM has been designed from the ground up it is compatible with existing MultiSystem II installations. Adding a few ranks for an Antiphonal division or a single rank for a Gallery Trumpet is a simple task. However, MSM is also ready to power a complete organ.

Capture System

A piston memory system is a network cable away. Virtually unlimited shared memories between consoles or independent pistons settings in the same box.

Cheaper than copper

With the high cost of copper and lack of suitable multi-core cables MSM distributed control circuits over easily available and cheap cat5 cables can save you money.

Control from a browser

A built in web-server gives control from any device. Download a new layout onto your smartphone and upload it to all locations in the organ without missing a beat.

Control Panels

Controls you need to play the organ need to be simple and always visible. New control panels with high resolution TFT smartphone-style displays can be set in different colours to suit taste. Displays are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, with more to come. All connect to the system with convenient USB technology.

Distributed System

MultiSystem Modular is designed to be distributed close to where the action is. Bolting a single-column driver to a chest allows the chest to be wired and tested in the workshop, saving time and money. 4-column modules provide up to 512 connections in a single location. Classic MultiSystem planes are also compatible. Remote diagnostics help you test and update MSM modules from anywhere in the room.

Fully Compatible

MSM is fully compatible with all other Solid State products; classic MultiSystem II planes and processors, CFM, RFM, TFM, Organist Palette, Portal, and more.

Communication between the main case and the processor is by CAT5 100BaseT Ethernet cabling. Displays are now based on USB technology and plug into the processor case allowing remote displays of up to 300ft from the main system.

Wiring

Solid State pioneered the use of punch blocks in organ building, however we selected a high performance connector developed by a German manufacturer called Krone that has been in use in the European telecoms industry for 80 years and more recently was adopted for internet connections in large office buildings around the world. It has been used by us in organ building since 1991.

Power

MultiSystem operates between 12 to 36-volt as standard. The system itself uses less than 1 Amp to operate, however care must be taken in providing adequate current to switch the organ loads. Connection is via 85A terminals on the case.

Outputs -

Output modules provide 32 outputs per card. They are provided with Krone connectors to punch the wires directly to them avoiding an extra connector and hence increasing reliability. The card has built in suppression. Each card may be unplugged for service without disturbing the wiring. Outputs are fused to conform with NEC specifications as is all internal wiring.

  • Negative Output - 0.75A maximum rated. Equivalent to 16 Ohms at 12V or 32 Ohms at 24V.
  • Heavy Duty Negative Output - 1.2A all outputs on. Equivalent to 10 Ohms at 12V or 20 Ohms at 24V.
  • Positive Output - 0.1A all outputs 0.5A maximum per output. Equivalent to 120 Ohms at 12V or 240 Ohms at 24V.
  • Heavy Duty Positive Output - 1.2A all outputs on. Equiv to 10 Ohms at 12V or 20 Ohms at 24V.

Inputs -

Positive Input - A high resistance input with built in surge protection and software debouncing for dirty piston contacts. The module loads the contact by less than 10mA and will accept inputs from 5 to 36V.
