MIDI options

MIDI is used in the organ for talking to other instruments and equipment using a universal code. The MultiSystem's modular structure allows MIDI to be added to the instrument in a number of ways. For example, MIDI outputs can be at the console or in any chamber.

If you wish to use an external MIDI recorder instead of our built in one you can transmit the entire performance through a MIDI port and then receive it back to replay the instrument. By adding stops to the console MIDI ranks can be added to the instrument in the same way as real pipe ranks.

The Organist Palette is an iPad based control system. It adds all the controls you need to setup and manage the MIDI interface on one place without cluttering up the console when you are playing.


Features

MIDI for Recording

We provide built in recording but if you need to record to a computer or third party MIDI device then a simple MIDI in and out port is all you need. This can be added to any console and multiple consoles can be used at the same time for special projects.

MIDI Stops

MFM may be used to make MIDI sound modules into MIDI ranks which can be used from the console with normal stop controls, you may need an additional processor to do this especially if you wish to control pitch and other parameters. The MIDI output signal can be supplied either in the console if you want close control of the digital ranks or in a chamber if you want a permanent installation.

MIDI in all locations

MIDI cables are restricted in length, the MFM helps you move the MIDI around the facility using the high-speed network, sharing it with the organ signals. A Gallery console can easily play MIDI instruments in the chancel or in the chambers, or anywhere all at the same time..

MIDI Controller

The MIDI stop controls are set up using an app that is part of the Organist Palette. All of the controls are laid out on an iPad for a clean and easy to use control surface. Each MIDI stop may be selected and all the settings for the digital rank tuned as required. Settings include Pitch, Timbre, Volume, Modulation, Stereo pan, and Transposer.

Hauptwerk Compatibility

Practicing on the real console but when the facility is needed for other events can be difficult. We can provide the data to setup your computer and use Hauptwerk to listen on headphones. Just remember to turn off the wind first or you may get a tap on the shoulder.

Volume Profiling

Digital sounds can go completely off if the volume is turned all the way down. Closing the swell shoe is not the same. The MFM controller lets you link any MIDI stop to an expression shoe and then control how the shoe affects the stop loudness so it matches the real pipes in the swell box. Volume may also be fixed to a specific setting if needed.
